I was sitting by the lake one Sunday afternoon
Watching the stones I threw skip across the water
I was no more than ten, a kid blissfully unaware
Of what the future would have in store for me
An independent soul, I always preferred my own company
But then you came out of the blue and sat by my side
You picked up a stone and joined in my silly game
Then you turned to me with the biggest smile I'd ever seen
And deep down I could feel my whole world change

It's been years since that first meeting
But every detail feels fresh in my mind
Like it just happened, Like I was still there

Some moments leave a lasting impression
That can't be forgotten no matter what you do
And some people still walk alongside us
Even though they are no longer here
Someway, somehow they're still there

Lying on a blanket under the night sky
Watching the shooting stars fly by
We were in the prime of our happiness
Telling each other our shared stories
Time was passing at a rapid pace
But we were too preoccupied to care
Then all of a sudden you took my hand in yours
And flashed the biggest smile I've ever seen
It was real life but it felt like a dream

It's been years since that wonderful night
But every detail feels fresh in my mind
Like it just happened, Like I was still there

Some moments leave a lasting impression
That can't be forgotten no matter what you do
And some people still walk alongside us
Even though they are no longer here
Someway, somehow they're still there

It was Wednesday morning and I was home
Wrapping up a gift I bought for you
It was meant to be the first step towards
A brand new life that I wanted us to share
That's when I heard a knock at the door
I thought it was you so I hid any clues
But when I went and opened the door
It wasn't you that was standing there before me
All that was waiting for me was some unexpected news
I lost all composure the second I heard it
And fell to my knees faster than speeding bullet

It's been years since that fateful moment
When all I ever knew shattered right before me
But every detail feels fresh in my mind
Like it just happened, Like I was still there

Today is another warm spring day
But to me it feels like the harshest of winter nights
Everything's been upside down since you went away
And it doesn't help that I'm stuck sitting here
Listening to a man recount every moment we shared
It feels like they all happened yesterday
As if I was still there, right next to you
Each word he says feels like a blade slitting my heart
I'm trying my best to not let myself fall apart
But I can't stop questioning why it turned out like this
And as each and every memory flashes before my eyes
I can't help but think the same thing every time,
"I wish I was still there."

It's been years since it all went down
And though I tried to move on with life
The memories followed me wherever I went
Every detail still feels fresh in my mind
Like it just happened, Like I was still there

Some moments leave a lasting impression
That can't be forgotten no matter what you do
And the people who shared them with us
Remain a strong presence in our lives
Even though they are no longer here
Someway, somehow they're still there
